I am writing to you in the hope that you can help me as I am
trying to connect with ancestors of my Great Grandfather Philip Quinn who
originated from Cornamuckla/Omeath area. Philip moved to Cavan in the late
1890's and had a family and subsequently moved back to the Dundalk/Newry area in
the early 1900's. Regrettably he died very young and as a family we have been
researching his lineage. We have discovered from the census, Louth Genealogy
centre and the Parochial Records from the Carlingford Parish that Great
Grandfather parents were:
Stephen Quinn who married Anne McGuinness (Maginness) on the 6th February 1867.
His siblings were:
NAMES DATE OF BIRTH
Rose Quinn 14/00/1867
Sarah Quinn 25/04/1869
Philip Quinn (Great Grandfather) 10/10/1871
Catherine Quinn 08/04/1874
Julia Mary Ann Quinn 19/08/1876
Elizabeth Quinn 10/11/1878
Patrick Quinn 08/06/1883
Michael Quinn 03/09/1885
We believe from the 1911 census that Philip's mother Anne was a widow and was
living with her daughter Lizzie Smith at Ballyonan, Drumullagh, Cornamuckla, Co.
Louth.
We have learned that Stephen Quinn was born on the 14/12/1845 his parents were
Felix Quinn and Sally McKevitt. Stephen had two brothers Bernard born on the
09/02/1836 and Michael born on the 13/09/1843.
We would sincerely appreciate to learn if any family descendants live in
Omeath/Carlingford region and if so what the connection is to our family as we
have no Quinn relatives in Cavan. The older members of the family here and
abroad have been extremely curious for a very long time.
