Sa bhliain1912, bhí Ó Méith ina limistéar Gaeltachta saibhir le cainteoirí dúchais Gaeilge, chomh maith lena chanúint áitiúil féin, amhráin, fhilíocht agus chustaim traidisiúnta. Bunaíodh Coláiste Bhríde mar choláiste samhraidh Gaeilge in Ó Méith sa bhliain 1912 agus lean sé ar aghaidh go dtí gur athraíodh láthair an choláiste go Rann na Feirste i dTír Chonaill, sa bhliain 1926.  Chuir an coláiste go mór le hoidhreacht na Gaeilge agus athnaítear a thábhacht fós, sa lá atá inniu ann agus go bhfuil imeachtaí comórtha ar fáil chun ceiliúradh a dhéanamh ar an ócáid thábhachtach chultúrtha seo.

In 1912, Omeath was a gaeltacht area rich with native Irish speakers, as well as having its own local dialect, songs, poetry and traditional customs. Coláiste Bhríde was a summer Gaelic college inaugurated here in Omeath from 1912 until it moved to Rannafast, Donegal in 1926. The college contributed significantly to the heritage of the Irish language and its importance is still noted today and commemorative events have been arranged to celebrate this important cultural event.
